Hmm, Jack. You know, I think you're right. Were it me, I'd yank that manifold blast it with walnut shells and re-spray with matt clearcoat.

Me thinks Barnhill is going to lose a tenth of a point. Maybe more.

Re: Thurs, Sep 4 - Problem Solved

The problem with cast aluminum is is stains in it over time, so after balsting them I paint them with Duplicolor Engine Hi heat cast aluminum paint, looks just like newly cast aluminum, and will continue to look good and not stain like natural cast aluminum will. The key is to use the Duplicolor cast aluminum, and not siliver or aluminum paint you see offered, they color on those are kinda cheesy.

AS far as painting the nice Moss white zinc plated heat sheild I'd have a hard time doing that even if it was a factory thing, but you know me, not much concerned about how the factory did it, more concerned about how to do it better

Don't get me wrong I respect guys who go to concourse point judged shows, and I'm glad these cars and folks exist to show us exactly what it was like from the factory, but this is a sport I rather spectate than particapate in. The thing about a perfect concourse car is if you not going to a judged concourse show and just particapate chosen shows than you might as well built the car you want, not the one the factory made. last year at Euro when AH was the featured make, we had a couple dozen or more Bugeyes that and the one that took the top honors had a HS2 carbs, rib cage gearbox and a 1275, and he was awarded his victory by his peers. With 400+ MGB at MG2008, I bet there was not more than 20 cars in the concourse class, this seems to be a dying thing. I hope a few guys stick with it for history sake, but I won't be one of them, call me selfish but I like to make the car mine.

Tony, A-series intakes are famous to crack where yours did, I seen it many, many times.

Re: Thurs, Sep 4 - Problem Solved

Hap, looking at the piece that broke off, most of it was clean, beautiful metal but there was an area that was oily signifying that there had been a crack there for some time...it just finally went when I started putting it on the engine.

I also used the Duplicolor Hi heat cast aluminum you use to paint the one Ray sent me...it was beautiful but had silver paint on it.

Re: Thurs, Sep 4 - Problem Solved

Aye, he's now down to 99.90 points.

Re: Thurs, Sep 4 - Problem Solved

Oh well, Tony...What the H**l, since it's not concours, you'll just have to drive the heck out of it!!!
