Do you guys stick to the old metal canteen looking one that came original with the car, or has anyone converted to somethign like this? I was thinking it might be easier because it is see through and plastic...although it loses the original look. I'm not even sure where I could get one like that.

this guys has it on this MGB for sale..

My vote is for the original. Much more durable. You can "bling" it up, even, by stripping the paint. They are brass, and shine up nicely, if that's your thing.

REALLY?? holy crap I did not know this! i was repainting mine black! TIme for a strip!!!! Brass it is!

That is an external expansion tank and only the later MGBs had them. For the earlier MGB, it is easy enough to purchase an aftermarket coolant recovery tank like that in the car pictured. For more information on coolant recovery systems see the article, Expansions Tanks, Coolant Recovery Systems and How the Cooling System Works in the Other Tech Articles section of my web site, linked in my signature block below.
Cheers,

Dave,

I am going through your website and digging it big time! It's nice, neat, easy to read without a bunch of jabber all over the place. Nice job and thanks for posting!!

Here's mine...relocated to the firewall after a heater-delete on my V8.

It now has a tubing leading to the ground for overflow.

Don't you just hate it when these guys flaunt their craftsmanship! ONLY JOKING Rick!!! ONLY JOKING. I love that car, one of my favorites. One day I might get the honor of seeing it in the real. PJ

Nice Rick!

So let me ask this dumb question:

I removed the heater to paint it and relaized most people keep them out because who the heck needs it anyway?? but my shut off valve is not working very well. I am getting coolant flowing through the hoses still. So,...do I:

a: hooke the hoses together with some kind of connector?
b: cap them off with some kind of clamp or closing mechanism??
c: enjoy the lovely nuclear green fluid that is getting all over my darn frame??!

Thanks!

Lou

Can't answer as to your hose issue, but I do like having a heater in the car. Gets cold here some mornings, and even the mediocre heat it puts out is better than nothing.

A heater is helpful if only to provide some demisting of the windscreen.
