very cool! sort of a 50's Mad Max vibe to some of them. I noticed a late 60's Chrysler product - wonder where that came from? and a Corvair that may have just slipped in under the wire. thanks

I spent 26 months at GITMO and there are a lot of 50s and 60s cars down there. A lot of them, on and off the base, have been, (Modified?), and I use that term loosley, just to keep them running. I doubt very much if there's many original cars still running down there. Only the wealthy can afford the nice ones. PJ

Back in the early 70's, my current 1950 Ford Tudor was painted taxicab yellow.
Our Submarine was scheduled to do a couple of weeks in the Caribbean in joint ops (they try to find us), and we ended up with an "issue" with a hull valve, had to pull into Gitmo so a diver could check it out.
I'm in Control, working on the SINS, and one of the crewmembers runs in and asks howinthehell did I get my Ford to Gitmo?
Grabbed #2 'scope, run it around, and there at the end of the pier was a taxicab yellow 1950 Ford Tudor.
Go figure.

I many years later spent some time in Colombia, and discovered most of the old cars running around were stolen in the US and shipped south (Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia) with "bogus" titles.....like the 1949 Ford taxicab we rode in titled as a 1946 (BIG difference....as in zero parts interchangeable).

Colombia has a big aftermarket supply chain to keep these things going. "Auto Row" in Bogota.

I remember driving in Bogota once, looking in the rear-view, and realizing something wasn't right in the Jeep Gladiator Pickup behind me.........I had to turn my head and look.

NO diff cover, no carrier, ring, pinion, front driveshaft, axle shafts, nothing.
