Crypty's on the streets!!

Weird; cause I just reclicked on the link on the message and it comes right up.

PM me and I'll try to post it to you.

Might try it again, might just have been a server problem.

I'm having no luck either, Ron.

This chap seems too be the king of powder coating
If you are a hammer, everything looks like a nail (or something like that). I think if I had the means to powder coat, I'd probably coat everything in sight as well! I like the way the front suspension looks with the silver parts mixed in.
I don't find the hood opening solution though. I did see his version of the emergency bonnet release, but no trick to getting it open otherwise.
Check this if you haven't already Dale. It's on the VTR website in the maintenance handbook.

His version of the emergency bonnet release is pretty
decent. MUCH stronger than 6-Pack or TRF.

I ordered new top and bottom bonnet catch/release
components today from TRF.

Since my emergency bonnet release failed because it
was so flimsy. I think I'll go with a more sturdy
mechanism like or Blue friend.

regards.

OH- Huge news for me today , small beans for most
other folks.

The Crypt Car drove 24 miles total today with nothing
major falling off, catching on fire, blowing up, breaking
down or malfunctioning. (Except for the hood not being
attached and bouncing all over)

In one single day, I have driven about 40% of of my total
drive miles for the entire 12 months of year 2006.

High, at temperature, idle though at 1,300 rpms. Curious.

On your bad front wheel bearings? Have you replaced them yet?

If not, how bad are they? Do the wheels rock, side to side and top to bottom, when raised. Can you tighten them up any?

Paul?????????????

Ron- Yes, the front wheels rock in and out
at 6/12 and 9/3. They make a slight "thunk" sound.

I have the lug nuts tightened down but that makes no
difference. The wheels still rock.

I wanted to get a few miles of driving time before the car
goes back on jacks for a few months to replace the front
suspension, wheel hubs and steering.

I am driving very slowly thru turns and holding at max
50 mph on straights.

But it really was fun driving those few miles without
breaking down. Even if the hood DID pop open and make
a bunch of noise.

Dale take the wheel off and the bearing cap. Get a new cotter pin before you start. Tighten the wheel as prescribed a couple of months ago in the last discussion. New cotter pin and away you go. ( Do both sides of course).
Was one of the first things I learned to do, it is that easy.

Dale,

Please follow the above advice and that will be all that you will probably need to do to drive it for a LOT of miles before you start tearing apart the entire fronts suspension.

Remember the "start simple" advice that I gave you? Let's apply it here as well, at least to start.

New cotter pins and a little wheel bearing grease and you'll be good to go.
