Crypty withering- Amos cool and collected

A major body blow to Crypty over the weekend but
not without a fight, I'll tell you. Final piece this morning
was the ball joint. DPO Pedro's junk yard mechanic had the
large lock nut so rounded off I couldn't get it to budge
with a plumber's wrench. By now, I am skillful with my
bench grinder so I burned it off. But Crypty fights on.

Just finishing the grinding and the postman taps me on the
shoulder. Scared me half to death. Three more boxes of back
ordered Amos parts arrived this morning. These new parts will
add nicely to my war chest of a complete front suspension set.

Crypty's getting real nervous with all these high quality,
non K-mart parts being installed. (properly, I might add)

Don't let MRS. Dale see that war chest. Yikes!!!

Sometimes I have big parts delivered to my buddys house so wifey can't see all the boxes.

I hope that you're not planing to powder coat all of those take off parts in your oven.

You might as well start packing if so!

I think that Dale is quite familiar with the "Nut Cracker Tool" from some of the responses that he's gotten on this forum over the past year.

Nope!

Actually, I've never heard of it.

Looks pretty cool but would not have helped with
the ball joint due to limited working space.

Usually, I hack saw or grind off the rounded nuts
and bolt heads. That K-Mart steel is pretty soft.

So then you would say that you've never had any nuts cracked on the forum?

OK, bad joke, I withdraw from further comments.

What's all that about not knowing what a pickle fork is, when you got on ein the lower right of that shot?!?!?!?!. OK, it's labeled as a "salad fork" but it's the same thing.
hehehe.
Looking great Dale.
You're gonna need to have the "redesigned" spring compressor tool ready to get those springs and lower a-arms back in. and don't take that tool out till the lower arm is in, and the upper ball joint is all hooked up.

One must keep their nut cracker tool in the same drawer of their tool box that they keep their ball buster tool in. This tool is espescially convenient for freeing frozen upperor lower ball joints.....

upper or - [censored] spell checker! LoL

Hey Ben!!

When you referenced it, I looked it up on the internet
and printed a photo. We have a new store on the island
called the "Auto Zone".

I shows then the pickle fork photo and they had one in
stock. $20 and worked like a charm. I also bought their
tie rod end remover. Also $20. Also worked pretty good.

I am still giving thought to the spring compressor.

By the time you arrive, all that might be left to accomplish
with Amos is to give you the keys and a road map to the island.

regards,

d

Dale,

I like the parts board. I did something like that when I rebuilt my transmission.

Just as a suggestion, did you take a picture of the upper fulcrum before you took it off the car? It can go on in two directions and one of them is not right! If you put in on wrong, you'll have a lot of negative camber. I think the best way to describe it is set the fulcrum in place so it looks like the curve follows the tower. Then rotate it 180 degrees and install it that way.

Maybe somebody here can give a better explanation than I did. I put mine on wrong and did not know it till it was on the alignment rack. Had to take it home and flip them around, then return for the alignment.

Go here for a good picture.

Gordo:

Thanks for the tip. I might have missed that one.

I did take a gazillion photos as I removed parts and
moved them over to my work board.
