Well, last heard the Crypt Car was backfiring, stalling,
hard to start, smoking spark plugs and otherwise being
a complete and total swine.

A whole lot of excellent advice given while I was
beachin' it in Rincon. A few photos were sent to Jeff
Palya for his input as well.

Started at ground zero this morning and fine tuned
EVERYTHING but the firing order. ( I have THAT maked on the
dizzy, marked on the block and marked on each plug wire
and tatooed on my left elbow.) /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/yesnod.gif

New plugs, gap .025, in the photo have 20 minutes (on jacks)
drive time plus warm up time on them. Compare to the plugs
I removed after Crypty started acting up.

It appears I have two carbs and an ignition system in
proper running order. Looks like a real winner to me.

Even more good news. Don Kelly's spare elec. fuel pump
just arrived and I hope for an install by the weekend.
So I might just get a few minutes asphalt time over the
weekend. I'm loading up the trunk with my emergency
roadside breakdown repair kit.

Thanks one and all!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thankyousign.gif

Howdy, I haven't been following your posts lately....to painful. How did the float biz problem turn out?

While I'm here,I'll add my 2 cents, throw those bosch platinum plugs in the toilet. They foul out like nobodys business.

Hi There Tinster;

This may sound Unusual but here it is anyway: I`ve "AlWAYS" ran "NGK - BPR 6ES" in any and All of My Brit Cars to include My E-Types with absolutely No Problems:

I put the same into the TR4 & She did`nt like them at all? Even My Brit Mech was Puzzled: Instant spitting & sputtering etc etc:

Well; Despite All Contraversy; It had "Bosch Platinums" in it when I rec`d the car & She ran just fine; The 4 prong type: I had to get them Ordered via Car Quest:

Well; She ran & is still running like a Champ:

Whats in the pic you show? Std Bosch or What?

You may want to try the Platinums for the heck of it; It would be a Cheap Test:

Or; You can go on ebay & place a bid on My TR4: Item # is: 160138269355:

Best Wishes in Either World;

Looks like its running a little fat, but thats par for course.

Dale,
The carb / fuel system problem gunked up the old set of plugs. That kind of color is caused by unburned fuel.
Hang on to them since they are not the least bit worn (they aren't Pedro's are they?) Just clean them up between the tip and the electrode, (nothing rough just a very gentle brushing will do the job) and take them for one of your wild rides, the rest of the crud will burn right off.

Thanks Yisrael!

I was going to throw them in the trash. Yes, they are
my new install- not PDO Pedro's. They have maybe 100
miles on them. I'll clean them up and keep for spares.

I am hoping to get Crypty's rear brakes functional on
Friday and then maybe a very short test drive on Saturday.

I will attempt many short drives until I accumulate 100
miles without a major breakdown. Then maybe a 20 mile round
trip attempt.

I have only 8 miles driven since the last major breakdown.
The car is still not reliable enough to go anywhere.
