Mark, great shot. I love the white "mountain" on your hood in the foreground of the mountains. My wife had a Miata for 15 years and gave it up for my 4. I never liked/drove the Miata, just another Japanese car to me.
 
Dale, if you do use a chase car, put the spares in IT. Take the load off Amos and let Amos run! :smile:

I had not thought about that idea. I can REALLY carry more stuff
in a chase car. A few decent jacks, jackstands, my spare differential,
spare drive shaft, many more tools but....................

the cross mountain road has no shoulders to make repairs.
A breakdown repair there would be difficult - thus the
tow rope and tow cable.

All you have to worry about is getting to the top. The rest, as they say, is "All down hill." Have a good ride.
 
What ever you decide to bring, put it in the chase car. The only weight Amos should carry on this trip is gas and your and your passenger's.......assurance that it will be a no breakdown journey! :laugh:

You'll have an AMAZING trip, I have no doubt!! Can't wait to hear about the fun and uninterrupted drive!!

Well now!

This proposed Crypt Car Enduro mountain/desert run is
gathering steam down here on the island as well
as Stateside.

I've got some mighty fine, Stateside, old car mechanics
helping me fine tune the Beast for the Trek. I've got a few
local gals wanting to ride chase car(s) and a video guy.

I'm needing someone Stateside that might wish to volunteer
to accept e-mailed in-progress photos and post them for
all to enjoy. My co-pilot has a cell phone that can e-mail
photos. Once in a while we will have cell phone signals.

Any volunteers for this job please PM me.

The ride will be on a Sunday in mid to late November.
(And yes Mickey- the Boss said to tell you the Chase
car will indeed have a few bottles of fine Red for roadside
rest/wine/cheese/bread stops.)

Good to hear from you. I was thinking about calling you
to see if you had any spare distributors so I could carry
one of them in my trunk, in case yours dies on me.

Just kidding.

I have a special ignition parts emergency kit and some
of the parts in it are:

6 rotors
6 condensers
5 sets points
1 dizzy cap
2 dizzy tiny, bitty ground cable wires</span>
 
Dale - are there any other LBC or vintage car clubs around?

It is much fun, and a nice support network, to do tours like this with other folks.

You'll be fine either way, but I bet other clubs have some good stuff going. Once you do one you'll be hooked!

Reading of your exploits for the last couple of years I was relatively sure of it. But your list of items in the special ignition parts emergency kit pushed it over the edge and I am now sure that in the front lobby of Moss and TRF there is a monument erected in your honor! After required morning calisthenics, employees of both companies pray that they may find another Dale that day.

I am inspired by Dale's plan for an enduro run. I think I may plan one for myself so that I might run with Dale in spirit!

And well they should ! considering all the defective,
poorly made junk parts they have sold to me at tremendous
profiteering shipping rates.

My two favorites were a replacement mechanical fuel pump
with metric threads for fittings and a water temperature
sender also with metric threads.

Until recently- my car averaged about 7 miles between
breakdowns. I will be attempting a 200 mile drive.
My car has never driven even close to 200 miles without
breaking down

I am guessing I'll go thru several rotors, several
condenser cans and at least one coil. Possibly one
fuel pump as well.

Better to be prepared than stranded in the middle of
nowhere with no replacement part.

The California Melee is the Original low buck classic sports car rally. In mid-September each year (specifically the weekend after Labor Day) the California Melee gathers a limited group of mischievous old car enthusiasts and treats them to a three-day, 750 mile tour of the most beautiful roads that Northern California has to offer... On the Cheap! Unlike some similar events, we understand the cost of building and running old cars, so we have always believed that an event shouldn't cost more than a set of used tires, or maybe a homemade wiring harness.

Sure, chances are you won't see pre-war Alfas, or enjoy a catered lunch at a winery, but you will have the thrill of running with oil burning E-types, and enjoy a sleepless night at a seedy motel. Remember what we lack in pedigreed machinery and gourmet cuisine we make up for in pure grass roots enthusiasm and fun.

However, don't be ashamed if your car regularly scores 100 points, we like those too. What's important is your enthusiasm, and a desire to mix it up with the often-unwashed masses of car collecting. All that's required is a good attitude, a pre-1975 sports or touring car and a paltry entry fee ($299 in 2004) which covers both driver and passenger and includes motel, awards banquet, t-shirts, stickers and more!
 
Okay, Tinster is thinking he's going to go through rotors, condensors, etc.

Shall we start a pool? I for one do not think that any ignition components will fail... Think he's finally got things right. If someone looks over his shoulder, knowingly, before his jaunt begins, I think all will be well...
