Crypt Car Clutch Question

Crypt Car still MIA but a posible sighting.
Two guys spotted pushing a funny looking
small red car with no top on it.

AFter the fact I am curious as to what
"blew up" in the crypt Car.

Gearbox locked into second gear. But then I had had
the shift lever out to look for the tiny spring and
push pad at the very bottom. Of course it was missing
so I ordered parts from Moss. After Crypty blew his hydraulics, with the engine dead, I was easily able
to get the gearbox into neutral and push the Beast
to the side of the road, where I left it in disgust.

When the clutch hydraulic line blew up, I felt normal
pedal resistance (always stiff in this car), I heard
a "thump" sound and the pedal went to the floor.

Turned off the key immediately but the since the car was
stuck in 2nd, it continued forward until it stumbled to a
halt. A pool of fluid on the road behind the car. A quic
look showed the hydraulic line blown up- just under the clutch master cylinder.

Clutch master, slave and hydraulic lines all brand new
from TRF, w/ less than 40 miles driven. Installed by
Western Auto mechanics.

Any suggestions as to what happened to the Crypt car?
I think being stuck in 2nd was my fault when I put
the lever back in.

thanks
D

Dale, without seeing the lines, it's hard to tell. If you're saying that it's just under the clutch master, then it could be the steel line (doubtful) or the plastic line from the union fitting to the slave. They did make sure it was tight on both sides of the union (or junction fitting), right? It may have come loose and separated on either side of this. My plastic line has been on for (8) years and the original was on for (14), so they do have a reasonable life expectancy.

I doubt that the steel line let go, but anything is possible, especially on Cryptine.

Hey Paul,

Although it was very dark, I could
easily see it was the plastic line
that either let loose or burst.

The Beast has been sighted.... in one piece.
I am sure once Three Kings Day (Christmas
gift giving day in Hispanic countrues)
has concluded, Crypty will turn up.

And YES I installed the missing bolts to hold
the transmission to the engine!

My Bad... I abandoned the Beast out of total
desolation and frustration. I mean $32K should
buy me a vehicle capable of more than 6 miles
without blowing apart and leaving me stranded.

On the plus side- I got to clean my garage of
one's accumulated debris where the Crypt Car sat
against a wall.

Tin:

So when yoou say abandoned, do you really mean it; as in you gave up on it? Or are you being sarcastic; not that you don't have the right to be!!

Dale,

I've been following your abandonment and search saga over in the pub somewhat and I think these guys that are pushing Crypty all over the island are gonna get tired of his act and give him back. If not... Sadly, I think Crypty's just found someone else to tease, punish, and beat up on with possible vroom vroom sounds.

I hope he decides to come home to that nice clean garage of yours though things are kinda quiet around here since he left.

Where on the plastic pipe did it break?
Was it new?

Tinster. I hope Cryptie show up (If that's what you want) And I wish I could come down and help you get things sorted out on it. I understand how frustrating it can be to be chasing problem after problem on a car. especially one that noone in the area really knows that much about. My first experience with a TR6 clutch was a real eye opener. For a setup that's so basic, they sure seem to have a lot of quirks to servicing tham.
If I was in a better position I'd be on my way down to give you a hand. But I kinda live paycheck to paycheck, and even taking a day ot two to try to get with YankeeTR to save those TR3s outside of Boston would be a real budget bender.
I know that between the two of us (and maybe another BCF member or two that we could coax along on the trip) we could have Cryptie be the terror of PR instead of the terror in your garage.
Keep the faith if you can. I wish you the best.

Dale, I am starting to go into depression listening to your horror stories. I may have to start drinking again....

Bill, having to report all these Crypt Car
horror stories, I may have to start drinking again...
after 11 years dry as a bone in the desert!! LOL

22 years....and counting.

Geez Dale, Ben would have his second team member if our circumstances weren't so much the same... but I'll deviate from you and Bill and say I will work fer CAB... but only locally at this point.

RATS! Rats, rats, ratsratsrats...

Hmmmm... Something and board I bet. Cabbage and board? No... Car and board? Maybe. I'm usually pretty good at these. Nope, I give up.

I'm guessing CAB = couple a beers. Bill and Dale, 8 years 11 months 5 days and the hours are just a distant memory of a blurrrrr.

CAB= Cheap A-double ess Beer.
For Tinster, and all he's been through, I'd work on the crypt car just for the chance to hang out in Puerto Rico for a spell.
Never been outside the contenintal U.S. (except Canada) It'd be a hoot!

We could have Cryptie torn down mechanically and together again in a week, Ben, with an innernet 'hot-line' to Tony. Proper tools would be the only question. Oh, and as I understand it we'd now need our passports.

No tinsmithing though.

Good on ya harry!

Every one of my friends of Bill W
know their exact date by heart-
interesting. Nov 10th, 11:00 AM-ish for me.
Kinda fuzzy on the precise time. LOL

Doc-appreciate the offer but only one
major hitch.

Every time I dig into the Crypt Car
to repair or replace one the PO has
buggered up, I encounter something even
deeper and have to order new parts for
that half-a$$ed fix before I can fix the 1st one.

For example, why on earth would the PO have
removed the tiny spring and push pad at the
bottom of the gearshift lever? I'll betcha that's
why Crypty got stuck in 2nd gear and is now MIA.
Those parts arrived yesterday but Crypty is
still missing.

After I receive the new clutch parts and remove
the tranny cover I discover my transmission connected
to the engine with only three bolts? Why? I have to
ask.

Once Crypty is located and I get him further toward
streetability, I probably will take up on the many
offers and fly someone down to check everything out.

heh... Bad choice: me and Ben. You may afford to get us there but I'll ~guarantee~ we'd eat you outta house and home inside of three days... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Tom, that would be a hoot indeed.
There is an English speaking meeting near
the tourist areas. 3X daily.

I got a long time pal who lost absolutly
everything and ended up at age 70 selling
peanuts at ball games to pay for his one
room slum. A VP of Corning Glass at one time.

After me nagging at him for years on end, he's
been with Bill W for 13 months now. Has a pleasant
job as a greeter at an expensive restaurant.
