Cross Drilled Rotors - are they worth it?

Just a question.

Depends on how you drive your MG.....and what kind of "cool factor" (no pun intended) you are striving for.

Vince, cross drilled rotors are not legal in some racing venues. In the SCCA Production classes, they are not allowed.
There are two types of "drilled" rotors, those that are actually drilled, and those that have the holes cast into the rotor during manufacture. Stay away from the drilled rotors, as there is a very good chance that a crack will propagate from the holes. The cast rotors are stronger.
The track I do most of my racing on is very tight, and the brakes get a lot of use. Brake fade and overheating has never been a problem for me.
They are totally bling for the street, and should you have nice, hot, rotors about the time you hit the next puddle of water, the noise you hear will be a rotor cracking.
A much better choice to optimize your brake performance is a good set of pads, such as those offered by Hawk.
Just my tuppence, of course.
Jeff

Thanks guys. I drive a little harder in the MG than in my truck. Mostly in & out of tight turns. I'd hate to heat em' up, hit a puddle and "crack".

I just remember reading an old story about J M Fangio when he got into someone elses car and lapped about two seconds faster than the owner could do. The owner was surprised because he thought there was something wrong with the car and Fangio would tell him what. When asked how he did it, Fangio said "more gas, less brakes"...

Jeff said it all. Spend money on pads. You won't out drive MGB brakes as they are. Leave the rotors with holes in 'em to the Porsche fellas. You'll have more swept area. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Any other recommended pads sides HAWK?

A wonderful story, and just typical of the great man. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I have heard good things about the EBC Green Stuff brakes, but have not tried them except on my mountain bike /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I have been eye-ing Woody's Wilwood brake conversion. It comes with cross drilled rotors (acutaully cast) but also with a much larger brake pad area and 4 pistons. The 8's brakes are marginal at best... any one do this yet?
