It goes a lot farther than from Monterey to Morro Bay, but that's probably the most famous section. It is <span style="font-style: italic">very </span>beautiful.

We will probably go there. If I remember right, I saw Dan Neil review a Rolls-Royce on that road on <span style="font-style: italic">The Car Show</span>. We do want to press on to Las Vegas though.

As for the Jaguar, it has 118k miles on it today. The only place where I could take it to have it worked on thoroughly by a Jag specialist is the local dealer, and they need to be told what to do exactly and are extremely expensive. But they do what they are told.

I'd second that. It's a beautiful drive at that time of year (when it won't get socked in by fog).

I paid $700 for a Chrysler 300 with unlimited miles for a week. No worry about my car, if there was a problem just call the agency and get a replacement. Two weeks rental would roughly equal 4 - 5 months car payments. Not a bad option and the ride was fantastic. Nonstop from West Virgina to Arizona, then two days later the return trip.

And so I sit here in Salmon, ID on day 11 of our trip to Portland. Meeting up with a grand niece in Missoula, MT tomorrow. The highest speed limit I've seen is 75, including a fair number of miles in MT. Maybe that's an interstate thing. We passed the 3,000 mile mark yesterday in Grand Teton National Park returning to our room in Jackson, WY. Oh, doing this in a Toyo 4-runner and have averaged 20.3 for the trip so far. Nice to see gas prices haven't continued the steep climb of 3 weeks ago. Enjoy your run out and back,but I would think twice about missing the National Parks/Monuments along the way. FWIW

You will be driving on HWY 93. Some of the locals have bumper stickers "I drive 93, pray for me". If you like micro brews, try the Draught Works in Missoula. Biz partner and I own the building, won't be there this week, however. Lots of places to eat and drink downtown. Traffic is about as congested as a large city. Be aware of bicycle riders, they are a little nuts.

Glacier Park is a must see.The lodge in East Glacier is
worth a stop also.
As long as you're in Portland,come on
down to Eureka.

Mark- missed the deer and hit all the turns on 93; really nice scenic drive!

Doug- staying in Kalispell for 2 nights. Not many of the park roads open yet, any suggestions of side trips? Also, know of any Native American reservation communities we could visit in that area or on the way to Portland?

Why are you in such a hurry to do a long trip?
I would fly if I was in your shoes.
I rented a Nissan Altima (a machine-not a car)
for 10 days.A little over $300,with unlimited milage).
You seem to have a fixation with Las Vegas.
Why not just fly there directly?
