No, there was no such beast as the LeMans in Europe, thankfully. Very few American cars made it to the UK, those that did usually being owned by US service personnel.

They were named after the Tourist Trophy and the sporting suggestion was too strong for manufacturers to overlook.
Lots of 7s (or Se7ens) too, Xracer - but that was a popular horsepower rating so a bit too generic - like all the pre-WWii 8s, 10s, 12s etc. Every manufacturer had them.
Let's leave out numbers - how about Talbot Solara & Toyota Solara - an odd name used twice, and recently too?

Isuzu Trooper / Acura SLX / Honda Horizon / Holden Jackaroo / Opel & Vauxhall Monterey
I love my Trooper, and the fact that three companies had rebadged the same vehicle was one of the reasons I bought it. The way I figure it, if Honda (& Acura) and GM (Holden/Opel and Vauxhall) are both willing to put thier names on the Isuzu, it is worth owning.

Just to clarify, the LeMans was not sold under that name, but it was essentially the same car as the Astra/Kadett. I actually like the Euro versions, and luckily the quality on those was much better than the Daewoo-made Pontiac version

I was thinking of an earlier LeMans....doh! Quite correct, I remember the Vauxhall Astra, and it really wasn't a bad little car. Rather like the Escorts, whereby the European versions were really rather good, and the US-market cars were pretty dire. My son has a 1996 Escort, and it isn't a bad little car, but I remember the UK Escorts as being rather better, and certainly more solidly put together.

I'd forgotten about the Granada's. I really liked the old Euro Granadas, but the replacement (Scorpio) from the early 90's on did nothing for me. Of course thinking about the Granada, reminds me of a couple more....

Careful, they did the same for the Isuzu Rodeo (Honda Passport) which while it was quite handy in the dirt, it was never up to Honda's quality reputation.

I have to agree. My sister-in-law bought a Passport to replace her Civic and the Passport is definately the more troublesome of the 2. As a matter of fact, she passed the Civic on to her son and his '93 sees the shop less than her '99.
