I was working on a friend's TR3A and we were tearing the engine down last night. The crank had two hex head screws at the end of the eccentrics, I am not describing this well, and forgot to take a picture. But I am guessing this was a not stock and added as a "clean out" for the oil passageways. Any insight would be appreciated.

Are they set screws/grub screws.

They are to plug the oil passageway cross drilling.

Please excuse the rusty crank shaft. It is a spare that came with the TR3 kit. All that was missing is the block.

Yep, they belong there. Machining oil passages necessitated drilling from 'outside' the surface. And be pleased at not having an Alfa four cylinder crank. The holes for cross-drilling the oil passages in those cranks is plugged with an alloy material that can be eaten away if the crank is "boiled" to clean it. That can result in loosening of the plug and having it dislodged under high RPM and the increased oil pressure. A nasty surprise if gone unnoticed!
