Crank super hard to rotate by hand

Charlie -

I'm heading back in the garage today to replace the oil pump and thrust washers. Hoping to fire her up too. I'll def try to take some more pictures. Towards the middle of my rod bearing frustration I didn't take any, but I should have enough for a wiki. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks!

Don't forget the center main.

My 1275 wouldn't rotate properly and a reversed center main cap was the culprit.
Very easy mistake. The rod caps and rods are marked with numbers on the same side making proper installation pretty easy. Not so on the center main.

Once reversed it rotated perfectly.

It lives!

I'm happy to report after a scary first time cranking (oil pump wasn't primed...doh!), I was able to get her fired up. 70 psi cold, and after warming up, she was at about 45-50 psi. I'm sure she'll lose about 15-20 psi once I take her out for a spin and really get the oil moving, but so far the numbers def look good and put me back in the safe zone. Another bonus...it seems as if the new pan gasket has stopped some of the more prominent leaking I had.

Last question: I bought enough supplies to do a second oil and filter change, figuring it'd be good to do shortly after the bearing/washer/oil pump swap. How long should I go before I change it? She still hasn't been out for a real drive yet, so I might take it for a spin and do it right afterward while it's still warm...any thoughts?

I was told and did 1/2 an hour of running time

That sounds reasonable to me. I probably should have done it all in one shot, but it is what it is at this point. I was short on time and just happy that it was running AND and good oil pressure.

Yesterday she ran for about 10-15 mins, enough to get up to temp and let the thermostat open. I guess I'll do another 10-15 min session, change the oil/filter, and finally go for a ride!

Gesh, take it for a 30 min ride and then chage the oil. No big deal.
