Experience needed here, I have my crank pulley off and really want to shave off 2.5 thou. so there will be no more depression on one side. The knife edge seal ( Moss) is 50 thou. under size. Tech at Moss says don't turn down the pulley seal surface. I'm sure most of you have dealt with the problem of "how bad can a oil seal surface be and not leak?"
 
Check with your parts store for a seal sleeve. It is a very thin section of metal tube that you press onto the seal area after coating the inside diameter with red loctite. You need to remove any raised areas on the seal area first. They are sold in 0.001" increments. I have used them many times and they work great. Put one on my sons 79 Midget 1500cc.
 
The Chicago Rawhide part number for the sleeve and seal kit for a 1500 is 99199. Don't know if they offer one for the A series, but I can check after work tonight. I know they also make one for the pinion flange, and these things have bailed me out on more than one occasion.
If you turn the sealing surface down, there will be insufficient tension on the lip of the seal, and it will leak in very short order.
Also, I've never found the need for the loctite, as there is enough of a press fit on the sleeve for a good snug fit.
