Cowl panel replacement question

I want to replace the side cowling because of damage done when the PO left off the door strap. It's rusted as well so I need to know:
1. If the original cowling with top was a one single unit or a top and two sides welded together somehow and
2. Can anyone share with me how they removed/replaced the side cowling?

In the Victoria British Catalog it appears this is made up of 3 sections. A top and two side cowl panels but I've completely stripped all the paint off that area and don't see any weld lines or spots, etc. Now I am completely stumped. Does one just cut off the panel above the damaged area and custome fit a new panel in the area? I hope someone can share with me their expertise in this area.

Thanks

I recently had the top portion of the cowl replaced on my 67. The seam between the top cowl and side pillars is the square hole that the windshield frame sits in. The seam is at the half way point of the square meaning that half of the square hole is on the top cowl and the other half is on the pillar. You will also find that if you are replacing the pillars that there will be some areas under the top cowl and top of the pillars where the metal edge will fold over onto the other pieces. This wasn't a problem for assembly but took a little work to get the old pieces free. I am not sure how the pillar is mounted at the bottom since I did not have to replace the pillars. The top cowl on my healey was warped and damaged beyond reasonable repair so i took the cowl off my old tub. it came off fairly easy once i drilled out the spot welds. overall the replacement looks great and is clean and warp free. good luck!
