Count the bangs

It hasn't snowed or iced over here for 10 years or better, so we should have a bumper crop of idiots on the road when it does. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

The insurance guy's nightmare! So tell me again, how did you manage to dent every panel on the vehicle?

I actually thought the first SUV pinball was trying to accelerate to stop from hitting people. This must be a hill situation and they slowly drift downhill.

I have a little more sympathy for these people. The pictures are taken from quite a high vantage point, so you can't see how steep the road is. At one point, you can see a stairstepped retaining wall, which should give you some idea--it's quite steep. Probably 6-8% grade. Note also, that cars don't slide sideways unless it is really slippery and steep. Once you get onto a street like that, I wonder if any of us could handle it. Main thing you can fault people for, is trying to negotiate it in the first place. But, even then, the snow is shallow, so it might look better than it is.

As for westerners who can't drive in snow--I grew up in Philadelphia. Moved from Boulder, CO to Charlottesville, VA in 1973, experienced heavy snow there, first year. Believe me, you find plenty of cluelessness about driving in snow on the east coast, too!
