It's been several years since I've had anything plated but $375 to $425 for a simple MG1100 bumper. Really?
 
Yes. Since you are in lovely California, you will find that a large portion of the cost is going to chemical removal and supply. California does not make it easy on platers. One local plater had a fire a few years back...they are still out of business because the county will note issue a license. i would take more than the bumper in...maybe you will get a better price with a larger number of bit to be plated?
 
If you think it's bad there, you don't want to price here in New England.
 
Usually if you take a lot of items to be plated, they will more than likely give you a bulk price. If they don't, go elseware. JMHO. PJ

Team up with someone who also has stuff to be redone, which will increase the total amount of items.

I've been using a shop here in New Hampshire (Specialty Metal Finishing, Dover)that does chrome plating very inexpensively. (Probably not show standards but I asked for cheap). They don't do large items (most bumpers) and they are not into restorations so the stuff has to be good when it goes in. I've been very happy with the cost and results.

i just got a quote here in buffalo, ny and it was $450 for re-plating a rear bumper for a 76 spitfire. way to expensive. i ended up just getting a real nice used one from scott over at team triumph in ohio
