Cortina Strikes Again!

Actually,this should be blamed on the current incompetent
owner/mechanic.
Got the clutch slave/master cylinder in & working -
- still won't go into gear without turning off the engine.
I forgot to pull the clutch/pressure plate off,& reattacth
it,before putting the engine back in.
Any ideas?

Walk away for a day or two if you can. That way you can attack it with more zeal and less frustration at the fore front or your mind.

Hi Doug,
If the clutch disc is stuck to the flywheel and pressure plate, put car in gear hand brake off and rock car forward and back with foot on clutch pedal. If this does not work warm up engine, then jack up rear axle, put on axle stands and chock front wheels start car in gear put one foot on clutch and then other foot on brake pedal this should free clutch.

If all else fails, start the car and warm it up fully.(Make sure that the braking system is fully functional) Shut it off, aim it somewhere safe,select first gear, start it up, and accelerate and decelerate a few times smartly with the clutch pushed all the way down. I have had to drive a couple of stubborn cars most of the way around the block before the disc let go. This method only failed once, on a Tr6. When I took the trans out and unbolted the pressure plate, I just touched the disc and it fell off.I was not amused.

Actually, clutch in, stick in 4th and bump the starter
with the coil disconnected...

You can start it in gear and drive around a bit with the clutch pedal depressed and it may come free.

I'm not familiar with this particular car. Does the bellhousing have a removeable pan under the clutch, like a Chevy or a Dodge?? If so, you can simply remove the pan and insert a thin pry tool between the clutch disc, pp, and flywheel. Block the clutch pedal down and work all around the disc. Test drive and repeat.

On the lift, you can start it in gear, rev it a little and stomp on the brake pedal with the clutch depressed. If that fails, hold a little throttle with the clutch depressed and yank the hand brake. If the engine stalls before the clutch comes unstuck, you may have to seperate the engine from the transmission then pry the clutch disc free of the flywheel.

If it is stuck like my Jensen healey was stck, you will be taking it apart.
