Hi Stuart, the BN4's use a Lucas C45 PV-5 generator. Cutting in speed 1,100 to 1,250 generator rpm. Maximum output 22 amps, 13.5 volts at 1,700 to 1,900 generator rpm. A field resistance of 6 ohms.

All of the above came from the AH shop manual under "General Data".

Hi Stuart, the BN4's use a Lucas C45 PV-5 generator.

After hunting for some replacement field coils recently I found that few auto electricians referred to starters and generators by their model number, preferring to use the Lucas part number instead.

The model number means something like C= concentric mounted, 45 = 4.5 inches field coil diameter, P = external regulator, V = ventilated, and this apparently doesn't always relate to the intended application.

The Lucas part number for 100/6 is 22483D and for the discerning generator owner will be followed by a date code somewhere around four to six months earlier than the build date of the car.

Andy.

Hi guys:
Thank you very much for your help. It seems I did something wrong the when I tried to reply before because the only thing that came out as a reply is HI guys.

Anthony7777: I just bought an 1958 Austin Healey 100 6 that I will start restoring in a short while. I do not belive the generator is correct, I think it was changed by a PO. I do not know what a p.m. is, so I can not say anything about it. I will probably need buy a correct generator for this car, preferably a used one to restore, but will consider a restored one if the price is right.

Thank you again.

Why guess~~~ "Andy told you in his post above what model number was specified for that car and the model number appears stamped into the case of a Lucas generator.
Check and see if it has one..

A-- p.m. is an off list message sent directly to your E Mail address from the forum by Anthony.
