Correct Gas tank sender?

73 Midget 1275 - R&R'd the dash, everything working, but the gas guage. I took the tank down and found the sender cover had fallen off onto the arm and was blocking the arm. I reassembled it and tested it. 0-199 ohms. e/f. Re-installed the sender in a front to back configuration but the guage only reads 3/4 when full. Question. Is this the right sender for the guage/car? Is it broken? Wrong configuration/orientation to the tank? Does the guage need adjusting? Any ideas would be most helpful. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

In doing the R&R on the gas tank sender I was able to adjust it to read correctly at F and E. I considered rewinding the rehostadt but a little bending allowed for enough movement up and down to drive the gauge.

The sender when installed should have the float pointing towards the center of the tank, i.e., sideways not fore and aft. The cover on the sending unit was originally held in place by machine screws not spot welds. Some one else must have broken off the machine screw heads.

I didn't mean the screws to the tank, just the cover on the actual sender. They are really lead/zinc solder welds. Mine originally dissolved away.
