Correct Flywheel Bolts

In early November I asked for help on getting the correct flywheel bolts for my TR-3A. The ring gear is a bolt on and the bolts the supliers sent me were not of the quality that I felt should go on a ring gear.
Local suppliers didn't help.
Jeff (Bugeye 58) suggested that I contact the Aircraft Spruce and Speciality Company. Even gave me the catalog number. I finally ordered them about a week ago and they came in today. I ordered them on line, 8 @ .28 each, cost $2.06, plus $1.98 shipping. I was blown away. I thought they would come back to me with a Minimun order charge and a hefty handling charge. Not at all. They came in today, perfect, just what I needed.
Thanks Jeff for taking your time to help a fellow LBC lover get what he needed to continue on with the business of putting it all back together. And again many thanks to the BCF and kudos to Basil for making it all available!
Gotta love the forum, Tinkerman

...and here I thought Jeff was just another pretty face.

BWUHAAHAAHAAA!!!!

A.S. is an invaluable resource for what most automotive houses (read: AutoZone et al) think is "weird". Another good'n is Summit Racing.

Real parts for real cars. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Aircraft Spruce is a great resource for fasteners (nuts, bolts, rivets) as well as all kinds of other cool stuff like composites, vacuum bagging equipment, sheet metal and even spruce! If you really want good bolts, they have AN bolts of the proper grip length so that you don't have threads in shear. The grade 8 stuff from the hardware store is adequate for most jobs but if you have a stressed application and want a real quality piece, get an AN bolt.

Thanks, TM, I'm glad it worked out for you. Glad to have helped in a small way.

Bryan, that was my consideration in sending TM there in the first place. I'm the one that made the bolt selection, paying particular attention to grip length.
Jeff

Jeff,

I assumed you had helped him get the right stuff. I was just singing the praises of Aircraft Spruce so others would know why they might want to get bolts there.

Bryan

Bryan, they do have a lot of great merchandise, and my race cars use a bunch of it. 99% of the hardware is aircraft.
Since my local aircraft hardware store moved 75 miles from me, it's more convenient to go to A/S.
Their paper catalogs are free for the asking, so you can have a handy garage reference.

I also use AS. I send in an order for various size diameter and grip lengths every couple weeks. I'm trying to stock my bins for the spring when I can get back to work. No heat in garage this year, next year for sure! The quality of the fastener is what I'm looking for and some of the stuff the big 3 send out looks no better than dollar store material.

A cool tool they sell is a AN Bolt gage. It comes in handy to figure the correct length you require. Always in the market for tools!!

This month I'm ordering steel AN fittings to replace the hydraulics. The markup at the speed shops is more than I'm willing to pay.
