Correct dipstick set up

I "think" oil blows out of my dipstick area.
This is what's in there now. How is it supposed to be?
The tube is pretty loose in the block and the dipstick just rests on the tube lip, rattles around and certainly doesn't hold anything back. So I pulled out out and plugged it and ran the car, lost the plug thus oiling the right side of the engine bay, must be ALOT of oil will fly out if nothing is there.
Note the clamp which is acting as a spacer to hold the tube and stick up higher (otherwise it grounds out in the pan).

There should be a heavy felt washer that goes on the dipstick that helps seal it against the flange. Perhaps a thin rubber O-ring below the clamp will stop the tube from rattling!
 
That sure looks nothing like the dipstick setup in my 1098.
 
My 1098 has that same dipstick. There's a black rubber gasket missing from yours and gravity holds the dipstick into the tube. It just sits in there loose and doesn't seal tight like on a modern car. As mentioned, a little black donut o-ring from the plumbing section at the hardware store might work nicely as a seal. It should be about as big around as the lip at the stopper mark on the dipstick.
 
I'm talking about the part that goes down in the block - my old one is totally different from that one & my new one matches my old one...that might be the reason there's the hose clamp holding it up....Moss has new ones relatively inexpensive..
 
Alright, thanks, I'll add that to the next order then. I tried an o-ring here and there but it still had oil puddling around it, not much but some. Still can't get over all the oil that flew everywhere when my temp plug came out though, wow.
I'll need to investigate proper crankcase ventilation. Right now I've got a small hose off the front of the rocker cover going into the Weber air cleaner, that's it. Maybe not seeing enough vacuum there. I added a tube to it recently to get it past the filter and into the air stream a bit. Still have little oil leak somewhere. Interesting, one place it shows up is on the ridges of the cam inspection plate, rear one, no idea how it gets there!

I made it worse when I had a little grommet that I tried to sandwich between the tube and the block, thought a little tap with a block of wood would help seat it, deformed the lip on the tube just a tad, but the dipstick doesn't seat quite as nice as before, oh well, wrong piece anyway it seems.
 
Did not know about that tube. I thought the stick was supose to ground on the pan.
