Hello,
I want to restore my brake calipers. What is the correct (original) colour for the BJ8 MKIII ?

Hi, I expect that originally they were cadmium plated, I believe this finish is now illegal to apply at least here in the uk. It used to fade down to a dull silver bronze. I've used zinc plating with a pale yellow passivate to try to replicate cad in the past. It starts out a bit bright but does tone down over time. I'm pretty sure they are not originally painted parts, but as ever happy to learn.

Yes I agree, just use the wire wheel paint, It looks correct even though the factory may not have painted the front calipers in the first place. A very good alternative for the correct wire wheel paint is sold by Eastwood, it's called Detail Silver part # 100042 moss also sells the correct wire wheel paint which is very high quality but a bit pricey.

Eastwood appears to no longer stock Detail Silver; also 100042 or 10004Z search comes up empty.

Do a search here for the previous thread: "Paint code spoke wheels?"

Scroll down for a Duplicolor aluminum that is supposed to be good.

I believe the replacement for Eastwood detail silver is now called Argent silver part # 1000-1 they list it as Muscle car area wheel paint. I never used it so can't speak for its correct silver color, however other British car enthusiast postings have recommended it. I still prefer moss wheel paint because of its quality and proper silver color. Takes about 3 days to dry but well worth it. I highly recommend applying a semi gloss clear coat over the new silver paint for longer lasting durability.

Just as a side note: I noted Eastwood does list some basic Ac Delco parts for Austin Healey, such as front brake caliper rebuild kits for 3.99 brake hoses, brake rotors, fan belts regulators, urethane bushings ect... Something to put in your memory bank!

Not original, but if you have chrome spokes and rims painting the calipers and drums black makes them stand out. With painted I'd go with the silver.
