Cork Seals -- H6 Carbs

I've had some bad luck with o-rings for my SU's -- they seem to swell upon being introduced to ethanol fuels which is something I've noticed with other rubber parts in the fuel system. Question is that I am going back with cork seals and wondering what the the life expectantcy of the cork seals would be for a car that is used on only in fair weather months. Thanks!

Not trying to be a SA but until they leak...I've had wide variance in longevity, probably depends upon the cork quality. Some have lasted for years and another set about 8 months.

A key factor with cork seal life is that the jets are polished smooth with no scratches etc.

Then the cork seals last for years, although less years than they did with leaded fuel. Perhaps that's down to repro quality seals though.

Another vital assembly thing is for the tiny brass cups each end of the central jet spring be installed the right way. The cupped side goes to the cork seal. I've dismantled carbies and found them the wrong way, which is very easy to do, and the seals failed in no time.

Regards,

Viv.

I like to assemble the cork rings with a little silicone lube, for some reason this lasts a lot longer in my experience.I dont think it gets washed off as quickly as oil/grease....

There are about a zillion different materials for O-rings; some of them are quite resistant to ethanol. The ones I got from Moss, for example ...
