Are these worth fitting during a re-build?
I'm gathering parts to build up a 1275 road engine for my frogeye. It will be slightly tweaked "warm cam, 1.5 ratio rockers & Vizarded head & HIF44"
I don't know what cam yet, I'm reading that section of the book now. I'm not planning on a screamer of an engine, but low down grunt.
I've got myself a "1275cc UNLEADED Cylinder Head 12G940 Big Valve 33.3 x 29.3mm 17L4" to fettle.
Anyone had any experience on such a cam?
:thirsty:

now off for a warm beer, yum.

Hi, I would go for the Metro turbo gasket (its the black composite one). I used one on my Midget (HIF44, +30, LCB/RC40, MG Metro head 80bhp at the flywheel) and it hasnt failed me yet!!

I dont have any personal experience with cams but with time spent on a few A series forums, the SW5 cam pops up an awful lot, others that also feature heavily are the Kent 266 and 276.
Based on what I've read whenthe time comes I'll more than likely go for the SW5

"Big Valve 33.3 x 29.3mm", I thought that these were the standard valve sizes?

If you can find one go for the head from an MG Metro as it has 35.6 or 36.5 (can never remember!!)inlet and 29.3 exhaust and as a bonus if you can get hold of a late MG Metro one it would be unleaded (I am told that a good sign for unleaded heads is that the car has the fuel filler cap higher up on the car)

I agree with Woblynne.
The only head gaskets I have ever blown were the copper ones.
I did blow 1 composite head gasket but never the black one.

yep, the TAM 521 black gasket, have one in my hot 1275 BE (67 RWHP) with alloy head, works just fine. Also my two cents - Kent 266 is a very fine camshaft. I'm also using the HIF 44, plus LCB header, it's a great combination.

Many thank all.
Won't be using a CU gasket then.
CAM; yes I've heard good things about the SW5 cam, dam good price too:
ÂŁ235 of our UK pounds for:
* Steel billet camshaft
* Cam followers
* Oil pump
* Lock tab washer
* Alloy vernier duplex chain
* Timing disc

They do a high lift kit with springs & 1.5 ratio rockers also but I'm waiting for a price on that.

Was looking at the Kent 266 and 276 also, so a little undecided yet.
