Just reading on another part of the BCF about coolants. How often do Healeys NEED the coolant changed and flushed? Mine has been bright green for several years and very little lost since I replaced the cap, so I've not bothered. Also they mentioned 60/40 mix as appose to 50/50.
Any Healey opinions?
 
In all of my "toys" (LBCs and non-LBC), I run a 25/75 antifreeze/water mix. I also add a bottle of water whetter. The upside to a higher % of water is better heat transfer. The downside is less protection at cold outdoor temp. My toys are kept in a heated warehouse during the winter, so freezing is not an issue. I drain the engine and radiator and replace the mixture every three years.

I change the coolant in my 1982 Chev pickup when I change the brake fluid. With 150K miles on it, it is almost due for that first change. Actually I did change the antifreeze once, but the brake fluid is original. I am a little pickier with the Healey, but I think we change coolant and brake fluid a little too often based on the few miles put on these cars. Every three to four years certainly is ample, unless you are losing coolant. Brake fluid can probably go even longer. Others certainly will disagree.
 
john kuzman, ive experimented with this antifreeze/water mixture and now use the same ratio you do,i found the water whetter reacts better in it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif
