How about driving at 9/10ths -10/10ths into the sun with one hand on the wheel and the other a sunvisor, on a hairpin!!! Or running that outside rear tire right on the ragged edge! A nice drive...even in a frogmobile!!
A few years ago, Jerri & I rented a Chevy Impala coupe & drove Pike's Peak...the whole time she was exclaiming "Slow down! There's nothing between me & the bottom!" & there might've been a few less than genteel ladylike words thrown in......hehehehe
You know, on the way down, they stop you & check your brake temperature before releasing you to drive.
The car in that film is a Peugeot 206: the same type they use in the WRC events.
The all-aluminum engine in the 206 will be fitted to the new '07 MINIs (to replace the cast-iron Brazilian engine they use now). In the 206 rally cars, that engine makes around 400 HP (it'll make about 120 HP in the street MINIs).
I drove the peak back in 1966 with a new 1966 Mustang GT with all the good stuff, car was 3600 bucks new.
Good ride, had the family along so did not push hard but was fun in any case and the mustang went right on up, no temp change or what ever. Lots of cars along the side cooling off.
I wouldn't say they have CORNERED the market though they probably do own a fair share of it. You would think that the French, given the history of beautiful art deco designs of pre-WWII could do better in general than they have managed to since then. They have had a few good ones though (Alpine comes immediately to mind)!
As a former Renault owner (5 GTTurbo) I can attest that since the 80s, they've gone crazy. The Peugeot 205 and 405 were nice, again in the 80s; but looking at todays cars and I include Citroen, they are hideous.
