Converting to RHD

Okay, furthering my knowledge of such things, what is needed for converting a LHD Bugeye to RHD? I'd figure you'd need a new steering rack and a new dash. Anything else?

Wiring harness...steering column cowl & stalk switches (if any)....on an MGB, the accelerator pedal is different as is the accelerator cable.

I'll probably think of sme other things from the MGB conversion I'm doing.

You'll need to reroute brake and clutch lines.

I'd figure that the brake and clutch lines would need replacing. No column switches on a Bugeye. Harness probably has enough room to be reworked.

Hadn't thought of the accelerator cable, but it would need to be longer.

Handbrake is left of the tunnel regardless of orientation, so no change there while the brakes are being worked.
Just 'alert' your passengers!

I'm not sure I'd ever do this, but if I ever ran across a RHD steering rack, I'd add it to my parts pile for sure. Other than the brake/clutch lines and dash, I think that's all I'd need.

Barry, my TR4 was like that too, with the handbrake on the passenger's side (hand brake on the RH side of the transmission tunnel). I never had passengers, as there wasn't a passenger seat, so it was never an issue.

Drew - when I had collected everything I thought I needed fro my MGB conversion, I found out that the accelerator pedal assembly itself (not the clutch & brake assemblies) was different....its one of the items I need to pick up this summer while in the UK! That & a UK steering column cowl...then I can start my conversion.

I think that the Bugeyes used the same pedals for both sides--it's a pretty basic car, made to be cheap to produce. I know the factory had one that was photographed both RHD and LHD on numerous occasions.

Someday I'll gather up the bits I'd need. We'll see if I ever do anything about it, but it makes for an interesting bit of parts hunting in the meantime. I need to go out one of these days and look at the RH footwell to see if all the fittings are there--they should be, but you just never know with an old car.

That's kinda what happened to me - I wondered if I could collect up all the parts needed to do a conversion, never really thinking I'd do one but, instead, just for the fun of the hunt...& then as I got more & more of the parts, I decided to turn my '63 into a RHD car....heck, I even found a kilometers speedometer for a '63 MGB!

I figure that might happen to me as well. I'll gather the parts, just to have them on hand, and some weekend I'll wake up with a wild hare and refit the car.

Nice find on the speedo, too!

Hey! then you can get a second job delivering papers.
Might be a long stretch to get them out of the boot though.
