Converting to a Surrey Top

Howdy gang:

I've located and purchased an original surrey top for my TR-250, including the aluminum frame, a glass rear window and the steel top. As I prepare for installation, I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has converted a convertible to a surrey. I'll obviously have to remove the existing convertible top, and I know that I'll need new door seals and a new cap for the windscreen. Anything else anyone can think of? I'd also love it if folks have any photos of surrey cars, particularly including shots of the rear of the passenger compartment.

I'm pretty darn excited about this. I've been hunting for a genuine surrey top for years! The only thing I need is the soft top and the various elements that make it up. I believe that Moss and TRF between them have everything I need there.

Anyway, thanks so much!

Congratulations Bill! Where did you manage to find one?

I'm curious about how the hardtop section is fastened. The SPC seems to show bolts at the backlight frame and the windshield frame (with a distance tube?). The ones in the back make sense but I'm curious as to how it actually attaches at the front.

I did pick up the softtop frame and softop from TRF years ago and was amazed that they had them available.

Would love to see pictures especially mounted and installed!

Here's an installation tip.
When you are ready to fit the hardtop, do not tighten down the backlight to the deck until you have the hardtop in near perfect position.

Bill,

Doug's looking for some measurements on the location for the soft top frame holes in the backlight frame in the thread below.

Hi Scott -- Will do. It's still in the shipping crate, but I'll try to get out to the garage and take some photos and measurements.
