converting from wire wheels to studs

I've read some of the other posts on the conversion process to wire wheels and they all mention swaping out the whole rear end of the car due to clearence issues.

If i'm going the other way, does it make sense that I can just swap the hub and I'll be ok? Has anyone else gone this route?

Thanks,
John

The wire wheel axles are 1" narrower, and if you put normal stud hubs on the wire wheel axle, the tires will likely rub on the inside of the fenderwell.

I am wondering why you are converting FROM wire wheels. I am thinking of putting them on my Midget but with some of the responses I got, I may not.

Also, have you thought about going to center stub allow wheels. If you go that rout you would not need to change the hubs, just the wheels. In my search for wire wheel information I have seen these and you may want to look at them as an alternative to changing out the axels. Moss Motors is selling a Knockoff Minilite that should work on your current axels.

eek...i was hoping the axles would be plug & play :-(

i'm thinking of converting from wire wheels to studs because wire wheels have been very fussy with me. they need to be trued and they've been leaky with me. and i'm concerned that my splines may eventually need replacing (which would mean new wheels too)

i've seen the minilite knockoffs and i do like them...i just don't think $1200 for 4 of them is really justified.

it would be less of a hassle to have normal wheels - no splines, no spokes and i can take them anywhere when i need new tires.

These are what I have on now,

We got new tires and mounted them on these:

So I need to switch out all the wire wheel stuff , the studs also allow use of a big brake kit and allows you to be able to put normal rostyle wheels with normal tires so the car doesn't have to sit on the slicks.
