Convertible Top

I am just about to take advantage of TRF sale by ordering a new Robbins Top for my TR6. (22% off plus $10.00 shipping) Is this a good top and what other parts would be recommended for installation?

Thanks.
dave

Robbins makes a good top. Some of the things you will probably want to get: velcro strips for above the windows; possibly a new top seal; the top should come with the female snap; new webbing; webbing retainer backets; rivets; anda lot of patience.
If you plan to install it yourself, wait for a sunny day. The heat will make the vinyl much more pliable and allow for better fitting.
Good luck!

I've always been told to install a top in average temperature, not hot and not cold. This way, when it comes time to put the top up, it will fit correctly; if you install on a hot day, you'll need the same hot day to be able to stretch it enough to get the snaps on.

Of course, if you install on a too cool day, it will sag like Aunt Nellie's Knickers on a hot day.

Something to consider.

The heat makes the material much easier to work with. If you reference your old top, you can get an idea as to locations of the snaps.
If you over tighten, yes, you will never fasten it on a cold day.

I just installed a Robbins top from TRF a couple weeks ago.
Very pleased with the quality.
Tricky to install though; dont install the side snaps until you've got the top front and back exactly where you want them, don't ask me how I know that!

Generally for tops & tonneaus the usual procedure is to mark the exact center front and back, align that with the center line of the cock pit and start with the fasteners there, then working outward. A white pencil (available in artists supplies) is handy for marking on a black top.

drdave, if you are like me and so many others, we hardly ever put the top up and it does create it's own problem in the top will not be very pliable, what I do on the side snaps is center where it tells you too then go down another 1/2 inch more and put the snap there. Never had a problem since.
