Does anyone have any instructions on how to mount the front and rear channel, seal, and velcro that seals out the rain between the top and side window. I have all the pieces but no instructions and the old ones aren't there. Thanks
I figured out some of it. But I am wondering does the door glass close against the rubber or is the rubber lip on the outside of the glass when the door is closed. Maybe some one can look at their top with it in the up position. Thanks
Hey Jerry,
Here is a fuzzy photo of the basic setup.
Basically, the velcro strip is first glued to the frame so that the velcro part is on the outer flat surface of the frame itself. The two black vinyl wings on this velcro strip are glued on the bottom of the frame and on the inside of the frame. I use the 3M yellow adhesive in a tube. You will have to use a sharp punch to re-locate the holes in the frame that are used to bolt the aluminum U-channel. Make sure that the velcro strip is glued smooth and tight.
This, of course, will act to velcro the edges of the actual convertible top. Next, the aluminum channels are bolted with the provided miniature bolts and nuts. Watch for clearance when the top hinges with these aluminum channels and adjust fore and aft accordingly before tightening down. The rubber sealing strip might (not might, for sure) need a little soapy water lubricant to get them in.
Notice that my frame is getting pretty cruddy. Soon, I will take it apart and send it off to be power coated next time. It is a good idea to occasionally to unbolt the back side of the frame that bolts into the rear body panel to check for rust and cutting of the paint. I have had to do some paint touch up on occasion in this area. Highly prone to rusting. Takes about 20 minutes to unbolt and check. Should be done annually.
The stiffening bar that actually holds the canvas top is highly prone to corrosion. Be a good idea to powder coat this too.
Thanks Andrew but that link doesn't seem to show or discuss how the side window seals go. Waiting for someone with a TR6 and digitial camera to take a picture or tell me which way the seal faces. But thanks for the effort.
I'm pretty sure those seals would "curve out"; in other words, the "concave" side would face the door window, which simply rests against the inside of the glass.
