convert to electronic tach

I have a Revington converted tach that died after several years. Worked great until death. Cost in excess of $150 plus shipping to get another. Has anyone converted using guts from new tach such as VDO or Auto meter. Any ideas? Please no stones from purists.

Or if you want to pay someone to do the job, www.gaugeguys.com did mine... works like a charm.
