I have used purple silicone fluid in the brake and clutch systems in my 1958 TR3A for the last 18 years. The purple colour in my case turned black. I assume that this is a result of the black rubber seals. It never caused a problem. When I bled the brakes etc. I collected the black residue and let it sit in a glass jar for a nonth or so. The sediment sank to the bottom and I poured out the clean purple fluid above it and re-used it. Never caused a problem.
My seals never got gummy. Maybe it's because I put in all new rubber seals and hoses before I switched to silicone fluid.
The reservoir on a TR6 is made of translucent plastic and many TR6 users of silicone say that the fluid in their brake system turns clear. Maybe the light gets into the reservoir and the fluid loses its colour.
