MGB-GT Conversion has started - splines to studs

Almost done, with one minor/major setback

Got the front brakes assembled and the brakes bled last night. All that's left is to tighten up the rear suspension bits and I'm ready to go.

Although I do need to source some wheels.

Fronts fit fine, left rear is fine though close, right rear rubs on the inside. Even though these Nissan wheels came off another MGB (same one the axle came from) his car must have had a better centered axle. As these wheels are not really my things anyway I'm going to go in another direction. Wallet bleeding continues...

I'm asking around locally to see if anyone has any Rostyles or anything else I can use. Moss' 14" Minators are on back order, so no love there -- I REALLY want to get on the road before it snows again!

Looks like I've got a line on a set of Rostyle wheels locally for the GT. I can swap the new tires over from the wire wheels and be done with it. Just need to finalize the deal, hopefully in the next few days.

Good, level-headed idea.

Picking them up on Saturday. Will do a quick sand-and-paint and put them into use. Probably just basic wheel silver and call it a day.

I will keep an eye out for good wheel sales, but my main goal is to get driving again.

I have a car again!

Picked up the wheels from my friend this morning, and got the tires from my old wire wheels swapped over early this afternoon. On went the wheels and out for a drive I went. It's alive! :driving:

Three of the wheels are scruffy but okay, the fourth is ragged and yellow. Bought some silver wheel paint and will clean them all up as best as I can and paint them solid silver. Good enough for the purpose at hand.

Sure is nice to have a car again. That was a long month of work, but the costs weren't too bad (thanks largely to some generous friends). Got a couple while-I'm-at-it jobs done as well: new seat belts, new front discs and pads, and a new fuel pump with better fuel line routing. Getting closer to a car I can trust.

Looks good though i might take the extra hour and tape the rostyles and paint them properly. They never look right in one color.

I think I'd go satin black just to puff 'em up a little during the drive/enjoy phase. Just a thought.

Thanks for the wheel color thoughts. I'm going for maximum simplicity here, so sticking with the solid silver at least for now. If I don't switch to a minilite-style wheel in the future I may think about a different scheme. I've seen some where the rim is silver and the entire center is black, that might be an interesting option.

Easy enough to redo them later if desired.

Nice going Drew! I love the GT series. Funny how the just wheels on a car can change it's whole appearance. The car can be immaculate, but different wheels seem to give it a complete different look. Like a woman's hairdo I guess, gives her a complete different look! :highly_amused: PJ

Now go out and enjoy whats left of the warm driving! Thanks for keeping us updated.
