Control Box wiring 100/6

I'm pretty sure this control box is wired incorrectly. Forgive the wiring colours as they are not standard but it appears the white wire is going to the field on the dynamo and the red to the D side of the dynamo which when they get to the control box are transposed
The contacts on the left hand side of the control box appear to have fused together....does this make sense that if the field and D are transposed it would fuse the contacts together?
I am assuming the small terminal on the dynamo is field on a postive ground car? IMG_0864.JPGIMG_0862.JPGIMG_0867.JPG
 
Do you have the wiring diagram? I think that this is the one for your car.

The wiring loom is home made, that's not the problem. The distance and route from the dynamo is no distance so I can tell which is which. Wiring looms on the cars are very basic, all I need to know is in photo 3 that I have posted, which terminal is field and which is dynamo
 
....but which is the field (F) connection and the (D) on the dynamo?
The small stud is "F" or "field". The large stud is "D" or "dynamo". It is also generically referred to as the "output" terminal.
As you should be able to tell, the "D" terminal is the one closest to the center of the generator.
 
All ongoing issues now resolved.....after finding the control box was wired incorrectly with the F and D transposed I decided to replace it. I then decided before I connected the wiring fron the dynamo ( generator for my US friends ) to check to see if the dynamo was working. Ran a jumper lead across the F and D terminals, positive to ground on my voltmeter then black to jumper....nothing.

Now I knew there was a bigger problem than a transposed wire on the control box.
Whipped the dynamo off the car and even before it was off I could see the coil windings were all unravelled inside the dynamo...it was absolute toast
How it ever got that bad I'll never know. The guy in the dynamo shop said he had never seen one that bad
Maybe having those wires transposed on the regulator could have caused that amount of damage
Installed an exchange Lucas C45 today, charging beautifully on rewired control box

Leew, You must be in Surrey, UK, not Surrey, Canada. You are lucky when it comes to finding parts and service for Healeys in a timely manner. In western Canada, many/most parts suppliers and repair shops have no idea what a dynamo is or have any Lucas parts available. Most also have never heard of an Austin Healey.

Yep, good old Surrey in the UK
Very fortunate to be able to drive just a few miles to source all the bits I need, especially to pick up the dynamo at a good price locally and fix everything once diagnosed in the same day
