Contractor Starting in GarageMahal Monday

Lowes would NOT have any left over ACM in their warehouses.
The itty, bitty contractors still stockpile it. (idiots)

CHANGE ORDER:

Well, my little gameroom project for my grandson & me has turned into a full-blown guest apartment (but, they'll still have to put up with the HO train layout)! I'm redoing my 1/2 bath area downstairs into a full bath with a shower (per Jerri's wishes)....that means all the walls I'd built some time ago & rebuilt while the contractors were working upstairs have to be redone again!

Frustrated? NAH.....

But, by today the contractors will be finished hanging sheetrock upstairs & will move into the entrance/pantry/stair area and its vaulted ceiling.

The bath last....

Tony you are a man of your word, Jerri gets what Jerri wants.

And now Jack can shower outside of the house

Sheetrock is pretty much hung except for the tall ceiling over the stairs & in the FULL bath.

Plumber is starting rough work this afternoon.

I'm running wiring for some can lights over the stairs right now while the crew is on lunch break.

I'll try to get some more photos this weekend.

It sounds like you have a case of ShipWrights or the infamous "While I'm In There I Might As Well".....

Paul - everything I do ends up with "might as wells".

GarageMahal Construction Project Update

So, y'day the contractor finished hanging sheetrock! Rough electric is complete, rough plumbing is complete...now we wait for the sheetrock finishers to do their thing. Meantime, the shower is set in place & the commode & sink are on site; the appliances are ordered (white 20" wide free standing stove/oven, white 20" microwave, white under counter 2-door refrigerator/freezer & white sink); and the doors are ordered. Plus, the cabinet maker is coming by next week to make his measurements.

Entire project adds almost 1,000 square feet to living space since it's connected to house by 8'x16' covered breezeway & Jerri's outdoor kitchen. And, because it'll be separated from GarageMahal by an insulated metal outside door, it takes that much space away from the GarageMahal....hehehe....another reason to add onto the GarageMahal!

Here's what it looks like today:

1) Looking into pantry area from breezeway entry. Door on angle is entrance to full bath. Entry door to garage is hidden to left behind Jerri's pantry cabinets. We've not enclosed my garage panel box yet; I'm still thinking about how I want to do it while maintaining access for future additions.

2) Looking back at breezeway entry and up stairs to 2nd floor studio apartment.

3) Better view of studio apartment landing and the cathedral ceilings over 1st floor area.

4) From center of studio apartment, looking back at landing and down into pantry/bath area.

5) Kitchenette area of studio apartment. Door to right is to attic part of GarageMahal. AC/heating vents in floor will be built into the cabinet kick boards.

6) Large cathedral ceiling 6'x6' dormer area of studio apartment. Door to left is same door to attic part of GarageMahal as in previous photo. Dormer is on opposite wall to kitchenette. You can also see the other AC/heating vets in either wall on both sides of dormer.

And here's a sketch of the project's layout (not to scale):

Sheetrock Finishers

Sheetrock finishers blew through here today putting the tape, corners & first coat of mud on the walls. Refrigerator and microwave arrived yesterday; bathroom door and door to attic arrived today. My contractor is coming over Thursday to set the door between studio apartment and attic so heat will stay in area that's getting sheetrock work done. Custom built door between the GarageMahal and this project will arrive next Wednesday, I was told today by the mill that's making it.

Moving along &, of course, more photos:

Re: Sheetrock Finishers

Hmmm, I think that will do nicely Tony. Ms Kay and I surely appreciate you going to all this expense and bother.

the food cans
Ah, that's the job Jerri isn't looking forward to....she has to empty all her shelves before they sand...the shelves themselves will be primed & then painted gloss white.

Re: Sheetrock Finishers

Weather is not looking bad at all from two weeks out. Come on down I got a big box of new mostly B stuff for you.

Re: Sheetrock Finishers

So, sounds like last week of Jan is best weather outlook!
