TR2/3/3A Continuity Check on Tranny Lock out switches

Before I bolt down my tranny tunnel I figured that I should run some continuity checks in 2nd, 3rd, 4th & reverse gears. Results were not good. I am testing switch terminal to ground. 2nd gear tested fine 3rd, 4th and reverse did not have any continuity. What am I doing wrong? Or what is a possible problem in the tranny and switches? Kinda have to get this right before I proceed, I figure.
Any thoughts and ideas greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Tinkerman

Did you have the ground wire attached to the other side? The reverse switch should actually not be grounded at all, when it closes, it passes power to the backup lights.

How many shim/gaskets did you install under the switches? I'm guessing you didn't follow the adjustment procedure given in the book, as it requires testing for continuity.

PS, based on recent experience, I would recommend actually doing a short road test before bolting the tunnel down. At the very least make sure the solenoid kicks when it should. I wound up having to pull the tunnel (and seats and carpet) a second time because the solenoid was intermittant; and almost had to do it yet again because I forgot to check the adjustment with the new solenoid. Fortunately, I had previously modified the pinch bolt to allow adjustment from underneath.

Thanks Randall. Yep youre right I didn't follow any procedure, just installed them. I now have the appropriate section in my factory manual bookmarked and I will be doing some serious reading in it tonight.
