Continental Mark II in the Weeds

I've always had a fascination with the Continental Mark II. It was supposed to be the "American Bentley". The styling was beautiful, they were lavishly appointed, so much so that Ford sold each one at a loss. This one sits behind the hangar where a group of volunteers has been restoring various aircraft over the years (two TBM Avengers, a partial restoration on a UC-78 Bobcat, and a second current Bobcat restoration). The consensus is that this car is too far gone to be much more than a parts car, though. I imagine some dreamer is going to take a crack at it one day, though.

My dream garage would contain one of these and a Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz so I could tell my wife to slip into a cocktail dress, throw on her mink and we could drive over to the country club for martinis and dinner.

Bought the wife a new Eldorado in 1985, had it monogramed for her. White with blue interior and Blue top. To this day I think it was my favorite car to drive. Yes she let me drive it once in a while, but only if she was with me! :highly_amused: PJ

it is for a 1932 Ruxton restored from a deteriorated previous restoration non runner to Pebble Beach in a year, by a talented enthusiast who was contracted to just get it running. It is amazing, especially for parts and solutions for such a rare car, a long read but, totally worth it.

Here is the connection. The restorer collect Continentals - he has one as pictured above, he has a continental boat he has various other cars - all with the name continental - quirky but awesome!

I knew a guy in Edgewater park, NJ that had a Ruxton and a Pierce Arrow in an old 2 car garage. Neither ran as far as I know, he even had a 1902 Oldsmobile in his basement. How I know this is I used to rent his Case backhoe on occasion. That was a very long time ago. PJ

Paul, I have to agree that a caddy is a tough car to beat. As much as I like LBCs I think my favorite car I have owned is my 68 Coupe DeVille.
