I have never had a cooling issue with my B. Many runs to Arizona in the heat it the summer up the hills to Prescott. Been the the Midwest and back in three days and change in the middle of summer...no problems.
Stock rad fitted with the only change being late model B plastic fan.
Fitted one of those expensive gen/alt to a ace bristol, as the gen could not keep the battery charged with the electric fan and the rest running. Was very costly, as it needed to come from the UK.
Best of luck with the P5....wired a coach built MKIV once from scratch. Was the best and fastest remedy for the problems it had.
The P-5 is a coach built one, came from France (is the story we've heard). To say the wiring was "creative" is an understatement! I can see where starting from scratch might've been a better option. Too late now, as pal/partner has got 99% of it sorted.
Here the issue is high summer temps combined with long uphill grades at elevation (up to 10k' around here). Get stuck behind someone on the uphill slog and things can get dicey. The B was generally fine once I put in the new radiator. I've contemplated a manually operated electric fan for those situations, but hasn't been needed yet. We'll see how the new engine does.
Would suspect that some of the heat build up at altitude could be from carb settings.
Havent run in humid conditions except for summer in Mo and Ok...no problems.
I would ditch the metal fan if it were mine, as the plastic unit pulls more.
Would check the wire fuses, Doc before testing the circuits to avoid the ol puff!
