Cake I can provide, money is another matter.

A little patience and some careful saving and you can get you one of those.

You're welcome by for cake any time, Tom. Driving the Bugeye over would be a nice plus as well.

Daughter sent me this

Well, I weren't gonna say stuff like: "GPS locator" and "ankle tracker" to Don...

Having an Elise can't seem to be a bad idea if you are worried about the performance over time issue. If you are speaking of the Toyota run Elise, well parts wise you just go to your local Toyota dealer and buy off a Celica, which run the same motor and drive-train. The latest Celica engine is really good quality wise, I've never seen any problems with the motor at all.

I bought an Elise as a DD and it didn't end up being one. It is too flashy and everyone thinks it is worth a lot of money. I recently drove it down to Kansas City with a Miata following and after filling up for fuel at the same stations we noticed they were using the same amount of fuel.

I think my main complaint is the fuel range, you can go about 200-250 miles which out here in the midwest is not much. I drove my car through the Dakotas to Colorado last year and there were times that I was worried I would not find a station in time.
