Considering 2nd hand engine, advice needed

I know Gerry Masterman of GEM enterprises built one and had to try 3 blocks before he got one to accept the overbore. You are really, really close to the water passages. Make sure your cooling system is in the best condition it can be.

Rookie question - what is a lotus TC piston?

I'm thinking a piston from a "Twin Cam" Lotus engine...

No problem about the info gents, I kind of mess the engine plant (Tonawanda BTW Jeff).

I have a second engine available for 250$ and I’ve kicked around the idea of boring it out but backed away from that do to what I consider the risk of taking the casting to thin walled and potentially causing leaks. I’m looking forward to a lot of other options with it that will add the pop we all crave but not at reduced reliability.

BTW MG_Bizzle, you can impregnate casting with a sealant that will close up porosity. I only no of this being done at casting facility but who knows with a little research there may be someone smaller who does it. The UK as I understand it has some pretty good foundries. Hopefully you won’t need it. Good luck.

Cheers,

Tim

Tim, my engine doesnt have any porosity. Though it was very interesting reading your post.

Head's getting converted to unleaded and the block might get a very light skim, then il see if this thing goes bang or not /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Out of interest if my block is on the limit, how do they make the 2100cc blocks?

The 2100 engines are made by lengthening the stroke.

Have you got Peter Burgess book? would be a worth while read if your messing with these.

Good luck.
