Confused... again!

Just been looking at the front suspension I took off the car last year working out what I need to replace and what I need to refurbish.

The rubber bushes and wishbone pin assembly don't seem to match those I can see in the workshop manual and various parts catalogs. Instead of the bushes being in two halves mine appear to be a single piece with a metal tube down the centre which fits over the wishbone pin. Its probably not an issue as I will be replacing them but I was curious if anyone else had seen this before?

In the standard setup do the rubber bushes fit directly onto the wishbone pin with no 'metal tube' (as I don't see one in any of the parts suppliers catalogs)?

Cheers

Steve

They all have the metal tube and should be fitted. Your rubbers were probably two rubbers (one each side when fitted) but over time they are squeezed so tightly together that they seem to be one. If that's the case then getting them out and saving the metal tube will be fun. I suggest that if they don't budge with WD40 and a rubber mallet then do as I always do and set them alight with a small blow torch (outside of course) and keep heating them until they just fall out on their own. You do no damage to the arms and get the tube out in perfect condition. If damaged AH Spares sell them as part of a kit for the wishbone arms.

The dreaded previous owner strikes again! You are referring to the upper trunnions aren't you? There should not be a tube for the wishbone pin. The pin should be snug fit in the rubber bushes. The bushes are meant to twist as the suspension moves.
