Confessions of a Sunday Driver

Took the 4A out for a great Sunday drive along the Potomac in the DC area. It was certainly top-down weather and I had to force myself to put the car up for the day. I even saw a very nice BRG Spitfire 1500 with its hardtop on, but the oddest car sighting was a Donald Rumsfeld lookalike driving a VW Cabriolet.

For those of you who had nice weather and no major projects to address, I hope you enjoyed your drives, too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Winter has to show up sometime so enjoy it while you can.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif I say keep it comeing.

Beautiful TR4A you have there. I've got a '66 4A like yours. I keep finding something to work on. I'd like to hear some stories about your restoration project--did you do that body work yourself??

Thank you so much for the kinds words. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'd like to see pictures of your car. From what I can see in the avatar, it looks nice.

A professional LBC shop did the bodywork for the PO about ten years ago. He put about 500 miles on the car and then let it sit until I bought it last April. The bodywork, though not perfect, was a major factor in my buying the car since I wanted a driver. My answer regarding the stripe is that while it is not "original," it is "authentic." /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As a result, the projects that the mechanic/wizard and I (mostly the latter /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif) have addressed have been mechanical. The recommissioning of the car required new brake, wheel, clutch, and slave cylinders, a new gas tank (gas-renu), new fuel pump and lines, new wheel hubs, and a replacement axle.

Let's see, what do I have for future projects?:

finish the trunk restoration
carburetor tweaking
find and install a better grille
clean guages and install new dash
address some engine leaks
fit Surrey top
install an overdrive
install driving and reverse lights
clean up the electrical grounds
new exhaust system
restore steering wheel and rebuild steering rack
re-chrome the rear bumper and light housings
recover seats
new tires
rustproof the frame and underbody

I'll stop there, I am really scaring myself!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Having said that, driving the car on days like yesterday makes it worth it.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gifIt was indeed a beautifu day for drive. Got the 3 out (hard top on but no side curtains) and did about 100 miles around No VA. Saw a nice BRG Spit in Berryville with top down. Gotta love it in the middle of December!

Yeah, I am hoping to get up around Harpers Ferry and Shepherdstown in the spring or, if this warmer weather keeps up, sometime soon. The WVA and NOVA areas have quite a few nice roads to explore.

I remember back in the late 1980s, we had a February in NC that had a 90 degree day. My brother put the top down on his Spitfire and off we went!!!
