Confederates In Scotland

Got an interesting email from the Commander of the Sons Of Confederate Veterans Camp I belong to. The email was from a fellow in Scotland who has found and documented the burial sites of 12 former Confederate soldiers buried in Scotland. One was a Col. Smith from Kentucky. Members of our Camp have been invited to attend a dedication ceremony in Edinborough next July. Never been to Scotland so this will be a totally new experience for me plus being very interesting from a Historical point of view.

Regards John

Now that would be interesting! So are you going?

Yeah I'm planning on going. To great an opportunity and to much history to pass up. Might even get a chance to catch up with our friend James Wilson!

And his incredible *running* Jensen Healey! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

You'll be more than welcome.

Send me an email when your plans are set.

Doing a little welding on the J-H at the moment, nothing too serious but just part of a rolling restoration/ upgrading.

I'll provide a report on "What I Did Last Summer" at some point.

Anybody wants any more info on this PM me and I'll send it to you.

Regards John

Ahh, why?? Incuireing minds want to understand?

Oh I know they were dead, duh.

No, no, the other answer.

Way were the Confederate soldiers buried in Scotland?

A lot of these guys left because, despite the popular stories about how well reconstruction went, there were a lot of hard feelings left over. In my own area a lot of guys left and moved west. Our SCV Camp have set tombstones for Confederate veterans from Ky as far away as Oklahoma and Texas. We recently located the final resting place of one Confederate soldier in the Spokane, Washington area. There was a colony in Brazil founded by former Confederates. The descendants of these soldiers still live there. The city is called Americana, Brazil.
