Just got my copy of concurs standards for Bugeyes. I sure wish I would have had this before I restored my car. After reading this, I am not sure I have ever seen a Bugeye that even comes close to a true concurs car now. I admit I purposely changed some things like engine color (my wife wanted a medium blue engine to complement the iris blue body), and used satin black instead of gloss black for car parts (don't like the gloss look), but now I realize there are many things I unwittingly did that were not stock either. I guess on the positive side it is back on the road (thanks to many of you), and the things that are not correct are easily changed if someone decides they want to after my passing some day. Admittedly restoring my Bugeye has almost been an addiction for years. I wish I would have done a better job sticking to what was original, but as I work through my restoration withdrawals, I guess it is time to finally let things go and just enjoy the ride. Thanks for listening.

There's only a few concourse judge shows for our cars in the country each year, most all car shows have a popular vote done by the entrants of the show reagrdless of what kind of car they entered and even at a concourse judged show it will only represent a samll number of cars being judged, most will be in the popular vote section of the show. I'm glad a few people go for a concourse correct car, it give us all an chance to see one as it came from the factory, Ok with that being said, I don't want a concourse correct car, for me that is way too boring, I want the car to be better than it was from the factory, and if that kicks me out of the concousre judging, well so be it, I build my cars for me to enjoy, not a handful of judges. Don't sweat it, put you car in the popular vote show, and meet new folks that you share common bond with, that is the greatest thing you can take away from a car show, not a throphy, people that do car shows for strictly the point of winning, normally are not long for this hobby, the real enjoyment of these cars is driving them, not parking them in show fields IMHO.

Here, Here Hap, I couldn’t express my sentiments any better. Build it the way you want and who give’s a rats behind what some supposedly unqualified judge says.

Mine is nowhere NEAR concours and has cancer, but, it is squeak and rattle free, easy to maintain, and reliable enough for me to drive from here to Wisconsin and back this coming summer. I try to get NOS when I can, or better if there's something that makes the car "easier". It doesn't stop me from going to shows, as Hap said "to meet new people and share a common bond". For me the enjoyment is in the driving, and the shows are and excuse to take a ride.

I downloaded the official Judging Guide for my LBC shortly after I got it.
I have tried to do everything "right", not so concerned about big things yet, as they haven't been done, but under bonnet, and interior, tool kit, things like that I only want to do once.
My BIG problem was that mine is a 2.4L, and RHD, and the North American club had no clue about anything not 3.4L, 3.8L, or even 4.2L, in LHD.
Semi-gloss, I think, is fine, as gloss takes more work to keep glossy.

One thing this Concours Guide will do for you is steer you more towards driving and enjoyment than trying to keep it "judging-ready".
