What is ygl-13 and how can I get rid of it? PJ

No CLUE, Paul! Explain more in detail?

Google yahoo ygl ... appears to be either part of Yahoo Finance or their fantasy football thing.

Can't help with the "getting rid" part except... check in msconfig, see if it's listed and turn it off, or check your task manager, see if it's a running process and turn off / delete it.

Funny - I just Googled "Yahoo ygl-13" and the *only* result was Paul's post here on BCF.

Paul - could you give us some info on where/how you found it? and what problem it's causing for you?

Tom

That's one of the problems with using Google; it retains your search history if you let it and filters your results according to your past usage. Use the search engine at DuckDuckGo.com...it delivers unfiltered results.

Paul... are you sure that you are getting YGL-13 and not YQL-13? YQL is "yahoo query language". You can search that to see what it is and how you might be using it (it apparently has something to do with Twitter).

I've got "remember" turned off.

But ... what did you get when you Googled "yahoo ygl-13"?

Well. I got this first...
ygl-13.jpg
...and I got this as well....
ygl.be.jpg
Without including Yahoo there are many more including...
ygl13.jpg
and...
ygl13chat.jpg
all of which contain YGL and 13

When I searched for YQL. I found that it referred to the Yahoo Query Language used in social networking and I found this PDF doc that explains its use:

Thanks. Now I figure it's the yql. I searched exactly for what Paul said he had: "yahoo ygl-13" (title of this thread) - but only got the BCF post itself.

Paul - what's the problem it's causing for you?

Hmmm, It IS yql!! I have photobucket for one and a couple other photo programs. When I want to upload a photo in PB I get a 3x3 panel that jumps up on the screen and asks me to save this photo or open with. Funny thing though, I have no programs that will save the file in yql format and jpg, giff etc will not work in it.

On the panel it says

You have chosen to open
yql
application/json
from https://geo.uery.yahoo.com

This happens every time I open a photo to upload! I have to constantly hit cancel as with the panel up, nothing else works.

Paul - you may have discovered an "undocumented feature" of yql. Here's an excerpt from the pdf file referenced earlier:

"YQL also allows you to retrieve data from external sources such as the New York Times as well as feeds such as RSS and Atom."

it's the "external sources" that makes me a bit uncomfortable. I'd follow the suggestion to disable it in your Task Manager.

I just read a document that states it's not something you want running wild in the computer. Among other things, it opens doors for hackers to have a field day! It invites unwanted pop ups to collect in the computer also. I've noticed more pop ups jumping on the screen even though I have a program to prevent this. Evidently this program bypasses most road blocks. I'm downloading my files and photos to another hard drive, re program this one and start over. I'll inspect everything I put back. It'll take some time, but that's not a premium around here! :encouragement:

I thank you guys for trying to solve this problem and I'm sure if you had this computer you could work things out. But my computer skills are somewhat limited. I do know now where some of this YQL comes from, so I have to be careful about downloading some freeware and check it out first. PJ
