Computer gurus...HELP!!!

I've just barely, so far, stopped myself from using my .38 on my computer...

These are most likely simple problems but I'm stumped since my computer expertise is waaay limited.

1. My email is served by Outlook Web App. All of a sudden yesterday it started coming up on the sign-in screen with "Light Version". I have it set to Private Computer but can't uncheck the Light Version box. I'd like to get back to the reading pane but can't. Suggestions?

2. In Yahoo...if there is a video in a story, it says "Need Adobe Flash to watch this video download here". I've downloaded several times but I still get the same message. What am I doing incorrectly?? Thanks.

Gary

Gary - I'm fixing my neighbor's computer right now. Will get back to you in about 30 minutes.

Tom

Thanks...I'll be waiting

Gary - what OS are you running? what browser are you running?

I have Windows 7 and plain Google. This email has worked properly for several years. Just yesterday it was suddenly different. The IT guy at the email server said to just delete the cache and cookies and it should work. ???

PM sent

Any resolution?

Doc - as of last night, Gary could reach all websites except his email site (private site). That server gives a 404 error. He was going to contact his company's IT guy for further help.

We didn't discuss the Yahoo flash bit. Email was more important.

Doc and Tom...got ~part ~ of the email problem sorted out. There's no www in front of the site name so now I can get into it. I still can't get any resolution from IT about how to go back to the full site (getting rid of the 'Light' version). It's supposed to just work !!

Of course, I'd still like to figure out this Flash problem... Thanks guys.

Gary - I'm headed out for the rest of the day, but try this. Use your browser and go to this page, to test whether Flash Player is already installed on your computer.

https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

Let us know if you see the "red spinning block" toward the top of the page.

I saw a couple of bouncing red blocks at the top then they went away. There is also a small box that says "You have version 11.9.900.152 installed". Sure doesn't seem to work on Yahoo videos though.

Hi Gary,
Is outlook a stand alone program, or is it a part of Office. I'm wondering if the full version is based on some sort of subscription that has lapsed.

No subscription on this. It's through a server in Atlanta. I finally had an "Ah Ha" moment and tried it in Google Chrome. Both my email and the Yahoo videos work in Chrome !! They just won't work in regular Google...which I much prefer. Guess I'm stuck with Chrome for those two programs.

Hi Gary - I'm assuming when you say "they just won't work in regular Google" you mean Internet Explorer?

Anyway, if the sites work in Chrome, then it's likely the problem was caused by a recent update to Internet Explorer.

On a slightly different tack, I just installed Windows 7 on my neighbor's desktop machine. Took about 30 minutes. But it took over four hours for the 136 "important updates" to download, install, restart, and re-configure. And one of the "essential updates" was Internet Explorer 11 - even tho' Internet Explorer 10 was installed and updated immediately at the initial installation.

I checked and I now have Internet Explorer 11 also...I'm sure they did that to "make it better" :( That's most likely the problem.

yup.

Since I'm so computer illiterate I registered for a basic computer sciences course at Harvard...online of course. It seems to cover the basics of programming, etc. Should be interesting.

YEAH!! Jump in!
