So I broke down and replaced it with a new iMac. Wife already has an iMac so I'm somewhat used to it, but will still be a lot of learning. Very nice display, I'll give it that.
 
Viewing this on my iPad - welcome to the dark side. Is your wife's name Eve?
 
I hope you enjoy it, Boss. For a variety of reasons I've been a Apple/Macguy for almost 30 years (since the Apple II -- geesh, has it really been that long?). They're good machines, very capable.

If you do need it, VMWare and a few others (including at least one open source project) provide good virtual environments for running Linux or Windows if needed. I use one on my MacBook to mirror my production web environment for testing. And, of course, a Mac is really just pretty Unix anyways, with lots of tools available natively.
 
Welcome. My first Mac was the 165 PowerBook. Now I've got a MacBook Pro 17, which more than serves my purposes. Sure beats the Commodore VIC-20.

And how many of us had/used/can remember a Trash (TRS) 80?

The first computer I bought for my business was in 1982...a Trash 80 that, with all the required business software cost almost $8,000 !! Learning to use their TRS dos was a REAL learning experience. AND 8 inch floppies...and a massive 12MB hard drive that was the size of a modern computer.
 
This new iMac has the new intel "Sandybridge" i5 (quad-core) processor running at 64 bits. I've had it for one day and so far I'm impressed with the speed and clarity of the display.
 
My first computer was a 32mg Wang with an IBM motherboard and my search engine was Compuserve and we worked out of dos (no menus). Yah and I had to walk uphill 5 miles to school in all kinds of weather ... :banana:

P.S. Just got a new Puter, not a Mac but I love my IPad. Considered a Mac but have too many programs running Windows only.
 
At least you didn't have to drag yourself by your face 10 miles to school in a blizzard across broken glass on your knees while being chased by rabid wild dogs only to find the bridge out and you had to swim while manacled... :wall:
 
Oh yeah, I'm glad you are finding the iMac impressive. I believe you will be quite pleased with it. Soon Windows may be a distant memory. There is new malware to be had on the Apple products, but it affects OS X.

I'm laughing now!... [For the moment, then it's out to the rubble pile to secure my lunch.] Thank-you. When they mentioned tea I realized that I haven't had ANY coffee yet today. Think I shall brew a large cup and hope for a sea change in my attitude. Then head back to the chassis paint prep dungeon a new man.

Me too, which is why I used bootcamp and installed windows 7 on a partition on the new Mac. Now I can boot in MAC OS or Windows any time I want. Best of both worlds.
