Communion

DNK said:
Mickey, how many religions do communion?

Ooo Ooo I know this one, what is just Christianity for $100 Alex.

Jesus instituted it with the last supper. It took place during the Passover meal.

Yup, and the onliest differences are how it's conducted, how often, and the doctrines that define it.

To spare everyone, that's as far as I'll go in my Cliff Clavin mode.

So all christian religions have communion.
Well I'll be dipped. Didn't know that
Thought it was just the Catholics and their offshoots

Well, kind of sorta. During my first confession class when everyone took turns going in , well, there was this wedding going on ...and the bride fainted... and I'm sorry I sinned father.
That was a lot more entertaining at the moment.

Mickey, how many Hail Mary's do I owe for that?

Some protestants don't, but it varies by individual churches. There is one "non denominational" one here that doesn't.

What I want to know is who allows priests to marry if any. Anglican?

OK, my Cliff Clavin turn.

Christianity is a religion (as is Islam, Judaism etc.)

Within the Christian Religion, (approximately)

We all started HOLY Catholic Church (Catholic means universal - and this is why Protestants say the Apostles Creed.)

Orthodox split about the 4th century

1517 Martin Luther splits and starts the Protestant reformation - now we distinguish between the HOLY Catholic church and the ROMAN Catholic church.

1538 Anglican Church Splits (on & off again relationship for a few years - Mickey?)

and so on it goes - so, we're all children of the same Father.

Hoo-boy! Religion and politics!

Let's stay light here.

But seriously, if anyone has specific questions, I'm always available. PM me. And, no, I don't proselytize.

JP, you meant Catholics, right? I've never heard Protestants say it, but all Catholics I know do.

Don, Protestants use grape juice instead of real wine. ( at least the ones down here.)

(NOTE: the protestants that I speak of are the non robe wearing type. I have no knowledge of the other off shoots of Catholisism.)

Ahem...

Hey Boss, we where not debating religion ,just asking about history.
Which happens to be one of my favorite passion. Not very good at it, but I like to learn more all the time.
If we crossed the line I apologize

Like I said, PM me...

For informational purposes only, Basil.

Two sects of the Catholic Church allow their priests to be married. Both Middle Eastern-based. The Melchites and the Maronites. My wife is Melchite Catholic and my family is Maronite Catholic. Both answer to the Pope in Rome. The priest that married us was Melchite, at St. Ann's in North Hollywood, CA. He was married with children.

Again, for informational purposes only.

hmm... I worship at: The Altar of the Static Lotus.

:jester:  :thirsty:

We have an Irish Catholic priest here, who was married, now divorced....But still preaching..

Odd must have had the marriage annulled

However, you can become a Catholic Priest from the Anglican Church even if married - it's rare but I worked with one in Orlando
